Melanie took part in a Twitter chat with Vibe Magazine & her fans where she discussed her appearance on TV One’s Lexus Verses and Flow, her upcoming album, what inspires her, and more. Check out the Q & A below.
Vibe Magazine: Verses & Flow is a show about the inspiration of poetry and music. What inspires you?
Melanie Fiona: People, music, and life inspire me. Things we live feel and go through everyday fuel me. I’m constantly seeking understanding
Vibe Magazine: What do you like to write about?
Melanie Fiona: LOVE!! ups and downs. the downs are always easier to express because I find strength in expressing vulnerability. its therapy
Vibe Magazine: What do you think of combining poetry and music?
Melanie Fiona: I think they’re one in the same. I look at the lyrics of songs as a form of poetry. Separately, they are equally beautiful
Melanie Fiona: I have worked with @Lexus b4. I’ve done a few events w/them. Its always nice to work with brands who support artistry & music
Vibe Magazine: What did you take away from this experience? #VersesandFlow
Melanie Fiona: I feel proud to be a part of this new series #VersesandFlow. I feel its a refreshing approach to art & music that people need.
Vibe Magazine: What songs did you perform on Verses & Flow?
Melanie Fiona: I performed a medley of “4am” and “it Kills me” & a brand new song called “Running”. I even spit a few bars! #VersesandFlow
Vibe Magazine: Is “Running” on the new album? What is the new album title and release date?
Melanie Fiona: “Running” is def on the new album Produced by @salaamremi and feat. @Nas. The exact album date is unknown, but SPRING 2012
The NEW ALBUM IS CALLED “THE MF LIFE”!!! All puns intended!! lololol
Vibe Magazine: Do you have a favourite Poet? and what artist (past/present) do you feel is the true definition of a poet?
Melanie Fiona: I feel Bob Marley was and still is a poet. His use and expression of words was so simple, but very deep. It moves the world.

Melanie Fiona: Performing in New Orleans at the House of Blues. That was one of my best shows where the audience and i were very connected xo - @Kay_nShit: Where do you shop at for clothes and shoes?
Melanie Fiona: I shop all over… high, low, vintage etc. But a good go to department store is Barney’s or Bloomingdales. xo - @DizzCompound: If you can remember anything.. what is your FAVORITE thing about Philly?!
Melanie Fiona: Walking and shopping Downtown…cheese steaks and the people xo - @priyaSupaul: What keeps you motivated and positive when going through a tough time or experiencing negativity?
Melanie Fiona: I go back to my foundation. Ive been blessed with many things.. My family, friends, support, my health, my life. AND SMILE! xo - @VenessaLB How did you come up with the idea for ‘Running? I’m looking forward to seeing you perform it live.
